What’s included in the Texas Emergency Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday?

Generators(<$3000)

Ladders(non extension or stepladder kind), hurricane shutters(<$300)

Axes, batteries, can openers(nonelectric), Carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, coolers/ice chests(nonelectric), fire extinguishers, first aid kits, fuel containers, ground anchor systems, hatchets, ice products(reusable), light sources, mobile cellphone chargers/batteries, radios, tarps/plastic sheeting. Each item must be less than $75 a piece.

What’s not included in this Texas Sales Tax Holiday Event:

Vehicle/recreational batteries, camping supplies(stoves/tents/general), chainsaws, plywood, any services, repair/replacement parts for previously purchased emergency supplies.

Why is there a 2024 Texas Tax Free Weekend for Emergency Preparedness?

Hurricane Harvey reminded everyone to stop up on emergency supplies, so the Texas government wanted to offer a way to give everyone a discount for being prepared. This spawned the idea for Texas Tax Free Weekend for Hurricane Preparation. The Comptroller’s office expects tax-free shoppers to save an estimated 1.5million or more during this event.
